My Journey at Acumenian🚀

My experience at Acumenian

My experience at Acumenian was definitely an exciting one. I learned an enormous amount of new skills and technologies and got to interact with some of the nicest and most talented and understanding people. From the first time we met at my interview, they were reassuring and eager to listen and learn more about me and my experiences.

What I expected to learn

Based on past experiences, I expected to learn quite a bit in terms of new frameworks and programming languages, and I did, but I didn't expect to learn to this extent. I feel as though I managed to learn more in these past 2 months than I have in at least half of my University courses. In terms of technical knowledge, I expected to learn Flutter, Dart, how the team works together in projects and their Software Development Process. For soft skills, however, I didn't have any defined expectations. Though, I gave myself the goal of communicating more and doing so more effectively.

What I learned

For starters, the amount of things I learned in these 2 months surprised and amazed me. Here are some of the things I learned and managed to work on: Flutter, Dart, ClickUp, Visual Basic, Bootstrap, ASP.NET MVC, .NET Core, Figma. I also learned more about JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and GitHub. And that's not all… I learned to communicate more, how to organize myself better and work as a team, especially while managing GitHub merge conflicts. Additionally, in our weekly meetings I practiced my presenting skills, which could honestly still use some work but I practiced nonetheless.

My star mentor(s)

If I'm being honest, my entire team could be categorized as my star mentors. I worked with all of them and learned different things from each. Initially, I wasn't sure on what type of projects Acumenian worked on but now I see that this amazing team has worked on things like Timeviu, Doorhop, Doorhop's mobile app, and is currently working on many more projects. I was fascinated and excited by the fact that I was put to work in most of the different projects currently being developed, such as DoorHop School, Doorhop Core, Timeviu and Timeviu Core.

My biggest challenge

As always, I feel my major challenge is in being more open in terms of speaking out and communicating. I feel as though there's always something I can improve on from my soft skills.

What I liked and what could be improved

I really enjoyed everything, to be quite honest. I liked how from that first call I received everyone was friendly and outgoing. Someone was always there for every step of the process from the interviews to the onboarding and our final day.

This is the end of my internship journey...
Thank you, everyone!
